Pirates Continue Winning On Day Two Of The Fall Shootout

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- East Carolina won six doubles matches and five singles matches Saturday on day two of the 2014 Pirate Fall Shootout at the River Birch and ECU Indoor Tennis centers. Seniors Damien Brenard and Ross Nigro each improved to 2-0 with victories Saturday.
The Pirates split their four matches during the morning session at River Birch with sophomore Frederic Lehfeldt picking a three-set victory over UNCG's Randy Phillips and Brenard winning in straight sets over James Madison's Maxi Branth. Blake Gregory fell in straight sets in his first match of the season, while Tendai Tapfuma lost in a third-set tie-breaker to Richmond's Dylan Trent.
Across town at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center, freshman Kasey Countee recorded his first intercollegiate victory with a 6-0, 6-3 win over UNCG's James Flynn during the initial round of matches. Nigro and sophomore Miles Holvoet were also straight set winners during the day's second round of singles play at River Birch.
In doubles play, the Pirates recorded a trio of wins over duos from Richmond and took one match each from Coastal Carolina, James Madison and UNCG tandems. Nigro, Nicolas Soriano and Patriek Wolterbeek each paired with two different partners for two victories apiece.
The final day of competition begins Sunday, Sept. 14 at 9 a.m. at the River Birch Tennis Center.
