Pirate Men's Tennis Falls To Coastal Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Visiting Coastal Carolina took 4-of-6 singles contests to steal a 4-3 match from East Carolina on Monday at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Pirates fall to 0-2 on the young season and the Chanticleers improved to 1-1.
ECU started the day off strong, winning 2-of-3 doubles matches to grab a 1-0 advantage. Colin Roller and Tendai Tapfuma beat Kaue Pereira and Philippe Tsangaridis, 6-3, in No. 1 doubles and Ross Nigro and Fredric Lehfeldt topped Vuk Velickovic Rick Timmerman in the No. 2 match. The match at No. 3 went unfinished.
But the Chanticleers rallied back in singles play, grabbing victories in the No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 matches. Only Nicolas Soriano and Kasey Countee won their singles matches; Soriano (No. 1) defeated Tsangaridis 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 and Countee (No. 6) took down Timmerman 7-6 (3) and 6-3.
The Pirates will return to action at the Indoor Tennis Center on Friday, Jan. 23, against Norfolk State with doubles play beginning at 2 p.m.
