Pirates Sweep Doubleheader From Barton And Mount Olive

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's tennis team recorded a Sunday doubleheader sweep of Barton College and Mount Olive College at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center. The Pirates claimed the opening match of the day, 6-1, over the Bulldogs, before taking down the Trojans, 5-2, in the nightcap to improve to 4-6 on the season.
Junior Tendai Tapfuma, sophomore Fredric Lehfeldt and freshman Kasey Countee each captured singles victories in both matches with all three players winning each of their matches in straight sets.
Tapfuma was 6-2, 6-1 winner over Barton's Rafael Velasco from the No. 2 position and a 6-1, 6-3 victor over the Trojans' Paul Wiederspahn at No. 3 singles. Lehfeldt posted identical 6-2, 6-2 triumphs over the Bulldogs' Daniel Radu and Lautaro Vazquez of Mount Olive, both from the No. 4 spot.
Countee opened his day with a 6-0, 6-1 conquest of Barton's Jorge Pradilla at No. 6 singles and finished with a 6-1, 6-2 win over the Trojans' Martin Sousa at No. 5 singles.
Senior Nicolas Soriano and junior Colin Roller also posted singles wins against Barton, while senior Ross Nigro claimed a singles victory against Mount Olive.
Roller and Tapfuma teamed for a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles as did Lehfeldt and Nigro at No. 2 doubles.
The Pirates return to action Friday, Jan. 20 against Presbyterian in Clinton, S.C.
