ECU Men's Tennis Sweeps Doubleheader From The Citadel

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina won its third and fourth consecutive matches Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of The Citadel, defeating the Bulldogs 5-2 in the early match and 5-1 in the second match at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center. With the wins, the Pirates improve to 6-6 overall.
Tandai Tapfuma, Nicolas Soriano and Kasey Countee each went 2-0 in singles play during the day. Tapfuma also posted a victory in doubles play, teaming with Colin Roller at No. 1 doubles in the second match.
The junior college transfer swept both his matches, defeating Peter Bleach 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles in the opening match, then winning 6-0, 6-2 over Oliver Dedding at No. 2 singles in the nightcap.
Soriano defeated Dedding at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2 in the first match before downing Bleach at the No. 1 position 6-2, 6-1 in the second match. Countee was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 6 singles over Joe Bove in the opener and a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Connor Grady at No. 5 in match No. 2.
Colin Roller and Fredric Lehfeldt were also victorious in singles play during the opening match while no doubles matches were contest.
In the second match of the day, the Pirates swept the doubles matches and senior Ross Nigro was a straight sets winner at No. 6 singles.
East Carolina returns to the courts Friday, Feb. 27 against Richmond. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start in Greenville.
