
Pirates Defeat Appalachian State For Sixth Straight Win

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- After losing the doubles point, East Carolina won four singles matches to claim a 4-3 victory over Appalachian State Sunday at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center. The Pirates won their sixth straight match to improve to 8-6 overall this year.
East Carolina posted wins at Nos. 2, 3, 5 and 6 singles, winning three of the matches in three sets. Senior Nicolas Soriano rallied to win at No. 2 against Jack Maddocks, 5-7, 7-6, 6-4, after losing the opening set. Fredric Lehfeldt claimed the third set over Zach Bost, 6-3, after winning the first set 7-6 (5) and dropping the second set 1-6 at the No.3 position.
Freshman Kasey Countee also rallied from a set down at the No. 5 position to defeat Jan-Willem Kleynhans, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Junior Colin Roller registered ECU's only straight set victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Trey Morris at the No. 6 spot.
The Pirates return to action Tuesday, March 4, against American Athletic Conference foe Temple at 2 p.m. at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center.
