ECU In Seventh After Day One Of General Hackler Championships

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Led by a 36 hole score of 3-under from freshman Tim Conover, the East Carolina r men's golf team concluded two rounds at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in seventh-place Monday. Final round action from the par-72, 7,233 yard championship course begins Tuesday with the final 18 holes commencing with an 8:30 a.m. ET shotgun start.
Tied for seventh-place, Conover paced the Pirates with a 6-under in the first round to place the team in second after a combined one-over par first-round performance. However, a 3-over par for the freshman and a 14-over par combined score for the Pirates in the second round dropped ECU to seventh.
Junior George Kilgore carded 3-under 69 in the opening round, and a 5-over 77 in the second round to finish day one in a tie for 19th among the individual leaderboard.
Junior Wes Conover fired a 2-over in round one and a 5-over 77 in round two to complete the first two rounds of play tied for 47th. He is tied with junior teammate Jacob Hicks, who carded a carbon copy score of 7-over for the tournament, after identical rounds of 74 and 77.
Junior college transfer Nick Thompson registered rounds of 76 and 79 to end the day in a tie for 63rd at 11-over.
The NC State men's golf team leads the 15-team field by three strokes over North Florida. The Hawkeyes finished the first 36 holes 5-under 571 (288-283) with the Ospreys shooting a 2-under 574 (279-295).
Jacob McBride of NC State is 6-under par and is two strokes ahead of five players tied for second-place.
East Carolina will play alongside East Tennessee State and fellow American Athletic Conference member Cincinnati in tomorrow's final round.
