
ECU TAKES SERIES FINAL AT USF, 6-0

TAMPA, Fla. - Four Pirates recorded multiple hits, while the pitching staff tossed their fourth shutout of the season lifting East Carolina (21-15, 4-5) to a 6-0 series finale win over USF (24-12-1, 7-2) Sunday afternoon at USF Baseball Stadium.
Durazo (2-0) picked up the win allowing two hits with one walk while fanning a career-best five batters over three shutout frames. Jimmy Boyd notched his first save of the season scattering a pair of hits over three full innings with three strikeouts. Starter David Lucroy worked 2.2 innings issuing four walks with three punch-outs, while Joe Ingle worked one-third of an inning.
Joe Cavallaro (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season allowing three runs (all earned) on five hits with three free passes and two strikeouts. Michael Farley allowed a pair of runs (both earned) on five hits, while Ryan Valdes was touched for a run in 1.2 innings.
ECU pounded out 12 hits on the afternoon getting multiple base knocks from Hunter Allen, Reid Love, Eric Tyler and Charlie Yorgen. Love led the club with a pair of RBI, while Allen, Brooks, Lowery and Watkins drove in one run each.
Kyle Teaf (3), Luke Borders and Buddy Putnam combined for all five of USF's hits.
UP NEXT:
ECU will return home next Tuesday, Apr. 14 playing host to UNC Wilmington with a 6:30 p.m. (ET) first pitch ... The Pirates will then hit the road for a midweek contest at Old Dominion (Apr. 15) before heading up to Connecticut for a three-game AAC weekend series starting Friday, Apr. 17 at 3 p.m.
How It Happened:
After four scoreless frames, ECU finally got on the board plating three runs in the top of the fifth taking a 3-0 lead. With two outs, five straight Pirates reached base thanks to three hits and a pair of walks. Garrett Brooks singled to center, which was followed by a Jackson Mims walk, and Hunter Allen drove in Brooks with a double down the left field line. Two batters later, Reid Love singled to right field pushing across Mims and Allen for a 3-0 advantage.
The Pirates added a pair of runs in the eighth on Luke Lowery's bases loaded single that scored Watkins and Brooks' sac fly that plated Eric Tyler padding the lead to 5-0.
Watkins capped the scoring on the day with a sac fly in the top of the ninth pushing ECU's advantage to 6-0.

ECU recorded five two-out hits (118 on season) which led to three two-out runs ... The Pirates advanced runners at a 73.3 percent clip (11-for-15) and was 4-for-7 with RISP ... USF left 10 runners on base and was 0-for-6 with RISP.
