
Men's Golf Takes Aim At American Championship

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina will send a foursome of juniors and one sophomore to represent the Pirates in their first American Men's Golf Championship event beginning Sunday, April 26, at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Fla.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament will feature all 10 American teams competing on the par-72, 7,025-yard course with 18 holes played each day. An awards presentation will take place following the final round on Tuesday. Admission to the event is free and open to the public, and live scoring can be found through GolfStat.com or on the GolfStat mobile applications.
Based on the most recent GolfStat team rankings, East Carolina enters the 2015 American Championship as the No. 4 seed and will be paired with third-seeded Houston on Sunday. The top-seeded team is USF who is ranked 18th in the nation, followed by SMU with Memphis, UCF, Tulsa, UConn, Cincinnati and Temple earning spots five through 10.
ECU will send the lineup of juniors Wes Conover, Al Dickens, Jacob Hicks and George Kilgore along with sophomore Jackson Spires to compete for the championship this week. Conover leads the Pirates with a 72.28 strokes per round average and has finished among the top-10 individuals in six of 10 tournaments this season. Dickens and Kilgore each have posted a pair of top-10 finishes.
SMU won the inaugural American Men's Golf Championship by five strokes over second-place UCF last season, while the Mustangs' Bryson DeChambeau carded a 7-under-par 206 to earn medalist honors.
