Pirates In Eighth At The American Men's Golf Championship

LECANTO, Fla. --- East Carolina junior Wes Conover led the Pirates with a two-round score of 2-under-par 142 at the 2015 American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship Sunday at Black Diamond Ranch. The altered Championship schedule saw the event shortened to two days due to expected inclement weather in the Lecanto, Florida area as the 10 American teams played 36 holes on Sunday with the Pirates currently residing in eighth-place at 18-over-par 594.
East Carolina fired a 9-over-par 297 in each round and trail seventh place Tulsa by five strokes. The Golden Hurricane carded a two round score of 13-over-par 589. USF leads the event with a 36-hole score of 19-under-par 557. UCF sits in second at 3-under-par 573.
Conover began the day with a morning round 1-over-par 73 with three birdies, and carded a second round 3-under-par 69 behind seven birdies and one eagle. Conover currently sits in a tie for sixth with a two-round score of 142 in the 50-person field. Conover's under-par afternoon round marks the 16th time he shot par or better this season.
ECU sophomore Jackson Spires is tied for 21st with a two round score of 3-over-par 147. Spires fired a 2-over-par 74 in the morning and 1-over-par 73 in the second round. The junior trio of Al Dickens, Jacob Hicks and George Kilgore are in a three-way tie for 43rd at 10-over-par 154.
USF's Ryan Fricker leads the league championship with a two round score of 10-under 134 and holds a four-stroke lead over UCF's Linus Vaisanen.
The American Championship will conclude with 18 holes, Monday, April 27.
