
Three Pirates Named GCAA All-American Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. -- The East Carolina men's golf team had three players named 2014-15 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholars announced the Golf Coaches Association of American (GCAA) on Wednesday.
Wes Conover, Al Dickens and Jacob Hicks were among the 206 players in Division I to earn the honor.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Conover, a rising senior, was named to The American all-conference team, leading the Pirates with a team-best 72.23 stroke average to go along with six top-10 finishes, three top-5 finishes and 18 rounds of even-par or better golf. He also received PING All-East Region honors.
Dickens played in nine events during his junior campaign and was a member of the Pirates' five-man team at the The American Golf Championship and the NCAA Noblesville (Ind.) Regional. Dickens tied the ECU record for lowest round with a 64 at the Rees Jones Invitational and finished the three-day event as runner-up. He posted a career-low 74.23 strokes per round average for the year.
Hicks competed in 11 events as a junior, recording a career low round of 69 at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, where he finished the 54-hole tournament at 3-under-par.
East Carolina opens its 2015-16 campaign Sept. 12-13 at the Rod Myers Intercollegiate at the Duke Golf Club in Durham.
