GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina University men's golf team heads Burlington Monday to close out the fall portion of its schedule at the Phoenix Invitational, Oct. 17-18, hosted by Elon at the Alamance Country Club.
The Pirates are the reigning champions of the event after posting a 19-under-par 833 a year ago.
Head coach Press McPhaul will send out the five-player lineup of Tim Conover, Jackson Spires, Patrick Stephenson, Blake Taylor and Jack Sides. Logan Shuping will compete as an individual.
Spires finished in fourth-place at the 2015 tournament at 5-under 208, while Conover finished eighth at par 213. Sides also competed at the event, posting a 54-hole score of 9-over 222.
Conover leads the Pirates with three top-10 finishes in four events played this season, including a first-place triumph at the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate. Spires and Stephenson each have one top-10 finish this fall.
In addition to East Carolina and Elon, the field for the two-day, 54-hole tournament includes Appalachian State, Delaware, Drexel, Gardner-Webb, George Mason, George Washington, High Point, Loyola (Md.), Mount Olive, Presbyterian, Radford, Western Carolina and Wofford.
