Pirates Drop Overtime Heartbreaker At USF, 2-1

TAMPA, Fla. - The East Carolina women's soccer team dropped an American Athletic Conference road match at USF, 2-1, on Thursday evening at Corbett Stadium.
Freshman Marianna Shurina scored her first collegiate goal and senior striker Lana Spitler led all players with eight total shots, while goalkeeper Caroline Jeffers made five saves. The Pirates outshot the Bulls, 17-11, overall and owned a 7-3 edge in corner kick chances.
THE GOALS
22nd Minute: ECU was first to score for the first time in its sixth league match of the season when Shurina ripped an unassisted shot into the back of the net to put the Pirates in front, 1-0.
28th Minute: USF (11-2-1, 3-2-1 AAC) responded exactly six minutes later on a quality run down the right sideline by Evelyne Viens, who sent a cross into the box that was touched by Leticia Skeete before Andrea Hauksdottir touched a soft shot into the lower left corner of the net to tie the match, 1-1.
98th Minute: With time winding down in the first overtime, Grace Adams made a run through the Pirates' midfield and back line before finishing a shot on what proved to be a golden goal to end the match.

East Carolina (4-10-1, 0-5-1 AAC) plays its final road match of the season when it travels to Orlando on Sunday, Oct. 23 to face UCF. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
