LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 33 East Carolina recorded its fourth consecutive Top 5 finish of the season carding a 54-hole score of 916 (52-over) claiming a share of fifth at the 2016 Cardinal Cup. The three-day event was being held at the par-72, 6,393-yard University of Louisville Golf Club.
The Pirates shot a final round 15-over par 303 Wednesday finishing tied for fifth with host and No. 50 Louisville (916). Seventh-ranked Florida State won the team title with a score of 876 (5-under) 22 strokes ahead of No. 42 Wisconsin (898) followed by No. 48 Kentucky (901) and No. 22 Illinois (908).
Freshman Dorthea Forbrigd registered her fourth-straight top 15 finish of the season with a tournament score of 225 (4-over) after posting rounds of 73, 76 an 76. Forbrigd ranked among the tournament leaders in par-3 scoring (t5th/3.00), total pars (t10/35) and par-5 scoring (t11/4.92).
Junior Lisa Pettersson recorded a share of 27th with a score of 230 (14-over) following rounds of 77, 81 and 72. Sophomore Kate Law and freshman Siranon Shoomee finished tied for 40th with scores of 233 (17-over), while freshman Grace Yatawara took a share of 76th with an event score of 244. Playing as individuals for the Pirates were sophomores Carley Cox (232/t35) and Catherine Ashworth (242/t68).
The Pirates, who completed the fall schedule with a 59-15-1 record, will be back in action Feb. 5-7 when they participate in the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla.
