Pirates Post Top Performances At Winter Nationals

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- A trio of East Carolina swimmers combined to set two varsity records and post five additional all-time top-10 times during the AT&T Winter National Championships in Atlanta this past weekend.
Senior Marion Abert etched her name atop the record book in the women's 200 and 500-yard freestyle. She eclipsed teammate Tori Angermeier's standard in the 200 by three-tenths of a second with a time of 1:47.81. She surpassed her own school best mark of 4:46.81 in the 500 by 0.82 with a mark of 4:45.99. Abert placed fourth in the B Final of the 200 and second in the 500 B Final.
Freshman Blaz Demsar qualified for two B finals and posted all-time top-10 times in the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly. His time of 1:49.24 in the 200 butterfly ranks as the fifth fastest in program history, while his mark of 1:38.91 in the 200 freestyle ranks sixth.
Rookie Grega Popovich posted the fourth fastest times in ECU history in the 500 (4:27.77) and 1,000 (9:24.61)-yard freestyle events. He also registered the 10th fastest time in program history in the 1650-yard freestyle.
