
Hot-Shooting Cavaliers Take Down The Pirates

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP)---Â Kyle Guy scored 13 points to lead five Virginia players in double figures, and the No. 14 Cavaliers used strong perimeter shooting to beat East Carolina 76-53 on Tuesday night.
Virginia (8-1) had little trouble bouncing back from Saturday's loss to then-No. 25 West Virginia. After trailing 16-15 with 9:26 remaining in the first half, the Cavaliers ended the period on a 27-4 run.
The spurt included seven straight made 3-pointers, with three coming from Guy.
A former Mr. Basketball in Indiana, Guy was held out for the final 11:27 during the loss to the Mountaineers. He logged 21 minutes Tuesday, sparking Virginia's early barrage from long range.
The Cavaliers finished 9 of 21 from beyond the arc, taking advantage of East Carolina's 2-3 zone.
Freshman Jeremy Sheppard led ECU with 17 points and B.J. Tyson added 10.

IT'S A GAME OF RUNS
- After falling behind 7-3, ECU answered with a 9-2 run to take a 12-9 lead as its first four baskets of the game were 3-pointers, two from White and two from Tyson.
- The Pirates led 16-15 before Virginia closed the first half on a 27-4 run, holding the Pirates to a pair of field goals in the final 9:26 of the half. The Cavaliers led 42-20 at halftime.
- East Carolina scored the first two points of the second half to pull within 20, but was never able to get its deficit into the teens. Virginia's largest lead was 27 points.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Freshman Jeremy Sheppard scored a career-high 17 points and has now scored double digits in consecutive games for the first time in his career.
- ECU made double digit 3-pointers in a game for the first time this season, knocking in 10-of-18 shots outside the arc. More than half of its made field goals (10 of 18) were 3s.
- The Pirates were out-rebounded for the first time this season, 30-28. ECU entered the game with a rebounding margin of plus-10.
- Clarence Williams led the team in rebounding for the first time this season.
- Virginia became the first team to shoot over 50 percent against the Pirates this season.
NEXT TIP-OFF
- Following a nine-day break for final exams, ECU will return to the court on Dec. 15 against College of Charleston. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
