PROVIDENCE, R.I. - East Carolina junior Jacob Wolfe has been named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week according to an announcement by the league office Monday.
Wolfe picked up the honors after limiting No. 4 Virginia to one run (unearned) on four hits (all singles) in 6.0 innings in Saturday's series clinching 6-1 win, which was the first series win over a Top 5 program since 2002. The left-hander issued a pair of walks, struck out two, induced three fly ball and 11 ground ball outs in his second quality start of the year.
On the season, Wolfe is 2-0 and has allowed one run (unearned) in 13.0 innings with nine strikeouts to three walks, while opposing hitters are batting .179 against him.
Freshman Dwanya Williams-Sutton was named to the AAC Honor Roll after batting .615 (8-for-13) with four RBI and seven runs during ECU's 3-1 week. He is the second Pirate to take home Honor Roll accolades this year joining fellow freshman Turner Brown (Feb. 22).
Williams-Sutton collected a hit in all four games including a pair of multi-hit contests against the Cavaliers. He added three walks, was hit once, stole two bags, slugged an impressive 1.077, posted a .704 on-base percentage and reached base 12 times on the week. In Saturday's 6-1 win over UVA, he legged out a pair of triples in consecutive at-bats becoming the first Pirate in 23 years to have multiple three-base hits in the same game (Jamie Borel vs. William & Mary, 1993).
The Pirates (6-1) will return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 2 when they host in-state foe Elon (3-5) at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. (EST).
