April 05, 2016 | Men's Tennis
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's tennis team dropped its eighth-straight match in a 4-2 decision against Campbell on Tuesday evening.
"Things have not been going our way, but our guys sure give you a fair shake of the stick," Head Coach Shawn Heinchon said. "I'm proud of the way our guys are battling out there. We've been coming up a little short, but thats certainly not for lack of effort."
The Pirates got a 6-4 doubles victory from Vlad Anghel and Frederic Lehfeldt on court two, but Campbell (8-11) evened the score with a win by the same count on court three to leave the doubles point hanging in the balance on court one. The match would move into a tiebreak at the No. 1 spot, but the Camels came out on top, 10-8, to take a 1-0 lead in the overall match.
ECU fell behind 2-0 with a loss on court two, but Kasey Countee and Lehfeldt scored three-set victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively to draw even at two-all. The Camels were able to close out courts four and six in straight sets to clinch the match.
East Carolina (8-11) will return to action Saturday, April 9 with a road match at Richmond. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
