
ECU In Second After Day One Of The American Championships

LECANTO, Fla. - East Carolina senior Wes Conover is tied for the overall individual lead and the Pirates are alone in second-place in the team standings after the completion of the first round of the 2016 American Men's Golf Championship at Black Diamond Ranch Sunday afternoon.
ECU fired a 1-under-par 287 Sunday and trails No. 15 USF by two strokes heading into Monday's second round. The Bulls carded a 3-under 285 with three player shooting under-par. Houston stands alone in third-place at 2-over 290 followed by UCF (293) and Memphis (294) to round out the top-5.
Conover sank three birdie putts on the front nine and then shot par over the final nine holes to finish the round atop the leader board at 3-under 69 alongside Temple's Brandon Matthews. ECU sophomore Tim Conover is one of three players tied for third-place at 2-under 70 with six other players shooting par or better.
Pirate senior Jacob Hicks is four strokes off the lead tied for 12th at 1-over 73. Hicks' classmates George Kilgore (+3, 75) and Al Dickens (+5, 77) sit tied for 25th and 33rd respectively
Round two of The American Championship begins Monday morning at 8 a.m. ECU will tee off at 8:50 a.m. and will play alongside USF and Houston.
