GREENVILLE, N.C. – After improving to 7-1 in home openers under head coach Heather Macy with last Friday's 66-53 win over USC Upstate, the ECU women's basketball team looks to tally the same ledger in road openers on Wednesday, Nov. 15, in Wilmington, N.C. The Pirates face off against in-state rival UNCW at 7 p.m. in Trask Coliseum.

Wednesday marks the 52nd meeting all-time between the Pirates and the Seahawks. ECU leads the series 30-21 and is 11-12 on the road against UNCW. Under Macy ECU is 1-2 against the Seahawks with the only road match being a 64-53 loss on Nov. 20, 2011.

The Pirates began the 2017-18 season with a 66-53 win over USC Upstate on Nov. 10. Four of ECU's five starters set career highs in scoring while Raven Johnson had a game-high 21 points. Senior center Thais Oliveira tallied her first-career double-double as a Pirate with a career-best 14 points and 13 rebounds. Mickayla Sanders was the only Pirate to score off the bench with seven points.

ECU out-rebounded USC Upstate 46-36 and grabbed 20 offensive rebounds. The Pirates forced 30 turnovers and had 21 steals in the win. ECU improved 6-2 in season openers under Macy with Friday's win.

Head coach Karen Barefoot earned her first win at the helm of the Seahawks' program on Sunday, Nov. 12, with a 73-64 win over UNC Pembroke (DII) inside Trask Coliseum. Barefoot arrived in Wilmington after an eight-season stint as the head coach at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.

In the opener, Madison Raque led all scorers with 24 points against UNCP and added seven rebounds. Rebekah Banks had a team-best 10 boards in the win while the Seahawks out-rebounded 46-37. UNCW shot 33.3 percent from the field and was 32.4 percent from the three-point line which included seven treys in the first half.

One of Heather Macy's first coaching gigs after graduating from Greensboro College was as an assistant on UNCW Head Coach Karen Barefoot's staff at NCAA Division II Lenoir-Rhyne during the 2001-02 season. The two then faced off against each other when Barefoot was head coach at Old Dominion (2011-17) in 2013-14 back when ECU and ODU were both members of Conference USA. The Pirates and Monarchs split the regular-season series 1-1.
