GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Less than 48 hours after losing to Radford, ECU returns to action Friday night against Central Connecticut State inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
It is the second game for both teams as part of the Showcase On The Banks tournament and tips off at 7 p.m.
ECU defeated Coppin State in its first tournament game, while CCSU lost to Rutgers in its opening game.
The Pirates will be looking to rebound for a 73-66 defeat Wednesday night with the Blue Devils in search of their first win of the season.
ECU fell behind Radford by 14 points in the first half, but rallied to take a 3-point lead with 7:52 to play. However, the Highlanders limited the Pirates to a mere two field goals the remainder of the contest and left town with a seven-point win.
"You use this and learn from it," ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo said. "You hate to have to learn from it in a game. You like to be able to learn from it in practice, but there's not that pain in practice like in a game situation."
B.J. Tyson led the Pirates with 16 points, while Kentrell Barkley added 13 with Jabari Craig and Shawn Williams netting 10 each. Craig also grabbed 11 rebounds for his first career double-double.
Central Connecticut State is playing its fourth straight road game to start the season which started with a one-point overtime loss at Hartford followed by a four-point defeat at Rutgers before being humbled by 25 at St. John's Tuesday.
The Blue Devils will be without head coach Donyell Marshall due to a "confidential personnel matter" that is currently under investigation by the university.
Senior Mustafa Jones and junior Deion Bute have both gotten off the strong starts. Jones is averaging 13.0 points and has shot .621 (18-of-29) from the floor and is the only Blue Devil in double-figures in each of the first three games. Bute scored a career-high 19 points against St. John's and grabbed nine rebounds.
The Pirates have won three of the four all-time meetings in the series, including each of the three games in Greenville.
