November 27, 2017 | Volleyball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Natalie Tyson has declared her commitment to attend East Carolina University and compete for the volleyball program beginning in the fall of 2018, according to an announcement Monday by head coach Julie Torbett.
Â
Tyson is a 5-8 outside hitter who starred for four seasons at Mount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Â
"Natalie is an amazing athlete that has the potential to explode as a collegiate volleyball player," Torbett said. "I love her spirit and drive, but her leaping ability is what sets her apart from other athletes. She will compete for time on the outside and could develop into a standout six-rotation outside hitter at ECU."
Â
Tyson helped lead the Spartans to consecutive Piedmont Triad Conference titles her junior and senior campaigns as well as a 72-25 record in four years on the varsity squad. With Tyson on the roster, Mount Tabor lost just five conference matches from 2014-17. As a senior, she led the team in both kills and digs while earning all-conference honors and team MVP accolades.
Â
Tyson played her club volleyball for Twin City Volleyball Academy and was named to the 2016 Regionals All-Conference Team.
Â
In the classroom, Tyson maintained a weighted GPA of 4.0 or higher throughout her high school career as an honor roll student.
