GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU women's basketball team (7-5) is set to host the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (3-8) on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. Eighth-year head coach Heather Macy owns the second-most wins (125) by a head coach in program history and is one win away from tying Sharon Baldwin-Tener (2002-2010), who tops the list with 126.
The Pirates are led by freshman Ariyana Williams who is averaging a team-best 12.0 points per game. Williams was named this week's American Athletic Conference AC Freshman of the Week following a career-high 34-points in ECU's last game. With the honor Williams became the Pirates' first freshman to earn the accolade since joining the conference in 2014. Senior Thais Oliveira is second on the team in scoring with 11.0 points per contest while also leading the team in rebounding with 7.6 per game. Oliveira is also tied for first in the AAC in blocked shots per game (1.8) and total blocks (22). ECU is second in the conference in steals per game averaging 11.9.

Maryland Eastern Shore has yet to win on the road (0-6), but are coming off a 66-43 home win over UMBC. The Hawks three wins this season have been over Valley Forge (92-38), Wesley (97-30) and UMBC (66-43). Bairesha Gill-Miles leads the team with 11.6 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game. Ciani Byrom and Martha Thompson are averaging 11.0 and 9.6 points per game, respectively.

The Pirates are 2-0 all-time against the Hawks and are 1-0 under Macy. Last year when the two met in Greenville on Dec. 4, 2016, ECU won, 66-58.
