GAMEDAY PREVIEW: East Carolina at Tulane
February 20, 2017 | Men's Basketball
East Carolina will play three of its final four games of the regular season on the road beginning Tuesday night in New Orleans against Tulane with tip-off scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
The Pirates are 0-9 on the road this season, but have won three straight against the Green Wave in New Orleans. ECU has won eight of the last 12 meeting in the series, including a 74-65 win at home earlier this month.
ECU will be looking to bounce back after a heart breaking 61-58 loss at home to UCF Saturday. The Pirates led 56-50 with 3:48 to play, but were out-scored 11-2 the remainder of the game as the Knights held them to just 1-of-7 shooting down the stretch. Four players scored double figures for ECU led by senior Michel Nzege's 11 points.
Tulane will be looking to earn its second straight win after taking down USF, 94-71, Saturday to end a nine-game losing streak. Melvin Frazier led six players in double figures with 27 points. Cameron Reynolds, the Green Wave's leading scorer at 16.2 points per game, added 17.
ECU leads Tulane by two games for the No. 9 seed in the upcoming American Athletic Conference tournament.
NEWS & NOTES
- UPCOMING MILESTONE: Senior Caleb White is five points shy of moving into fifth-place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,485 points and 20 points short of becoming the fifth 1500-point scorer in school history. White is expected to play in his 124th game Tuesday, which would match the ECU record for career games played. Andre Washington is one block away from posting the just the third individual 80-block season in school history.
- Michel Nzege has scored 11 points in each of the last two games after being held under double figures in each of his first 18 games of the season.
- An East Carolina victory would give the Pirates more victories both overall (13) and in conference (5) than it had last season.
- East Carolina is going for its first season sweep of Tulane since 2010. Although, they've been in the same conference since 2001-02, the Pirates and Tulane have played home-and-home only six times with the Green Wave winning in 2006, '07 and '08. They split their home-and-home series in 2009 and '16.
