Pirates Improve to 14-3 with Win over Liberty

Greenville, N.C. – East Carolina improved to 14-3 with a convincing 6-1 win over Liberty (7-7) at the River Birch Tennis Complex Tuesday afternoon. The Pirates clinched the doubles point winning at both No. 1 and No. 2 before going on to win five-of-six singles matches in the victory.

"I am pleased with our tennis today," head coach Shawn Heinchon said. "The conditions were a bit tricky with the wind but I thought our guys did a great job of just focusing on their work."

After claiming the doubles point, Kasey Countee cruised to a quick 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles giving ECU a 2-0 match lead. Ronny Georgi finished soon after with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles over Chase Burton. Vlad Anghel put East Carolina within one point of clinching victory following his 6-2, 6-4 win over Eddie Gutierrez at No. 3 singles.

Despite losing the first set 6-1, Fredric Lehfeldt bounced back to even the match 1-1 with a 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. After the Pirates had secured the win, he retired in the third set giving Diego Castano the Flames' only win in the match.

Freddie McGeehan and Will Bissett closed out play winning their respective matches at No. 1 and No. 6 singles for the 6-1 win.

With six regular season matches remaining, the Pirates already have amounted their most wins in a season since posting an 18-7 record in the 2013-14 season.

The Pirates return to action Saturday when the host Coastal Carolina at 1:30 p.m.
