Conover Leads ECU To Fifth-Place Finish At Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. – The East Carolina men's golf team finished fifth among 18 teams at The Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate and junior Tim Conover tied for fourth among individuals competing at the par-70, 6,617-yard Palmetto Golf Club on Tuesday.
ECU turned in the third-lowest round of the day at 290, one stroke less than tournament winner Clemson. The Pirates fired a three round total of 17-over-par 857 (283-284-290) to earn their fifth top-5 finish in eight events this season.
The Tigers took the team title with a 54-hole tally of 5-under-par 835 (269-277-289) and finished one stroke ahead of second-place Virginia (273-270-293=836) and 10 strokes in front of third-place South Carolina (279-287-279=845).
Conover fired a third round 3-under-par 67 with five birdies and 11 pars against two bogeys to move up 12 places in the final standings. He finished with a two-day total of 2-under-par 208 (71-70-67). Junior Jackson Spires and freshman Blake Taylor tied for 18th at 5-over-par 215. Freshman Patrick Stephenson shot 7-over-par 77 in round three to finish at 12-over 220 (74-71-77) and fellow freshman Chris Ackers carded a 4-over-par 74 Tuesday and completed the event at 20-over-par 230.
Virginia's Derek Bard claimed individual medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 6-under-par 204 (69-65-70).

The Pirates will return to the links this weekend, March 11-12, at the General Hackler Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
