USF Takes Series Opener Over East Carolina, 3-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. – USF limited East Carolina to a pair of hits Friday afternoon on the way to a 3-0 victory in the teams' American Athletic Conference softball series opener at the USF Softball Stadium.

The Rundown
Kristen Wyckoff and Lauren Evans notched two hits apiece to lead the Bulls' offense while Kassandra Moeller and Sam Worrell drove in one run each. Senior outfielder Kacie Oshiro and junior infielder Meredith Burroughs collected both of the Pirates' base hits.

Kalen McGill (9-5) threw 5.2 scoreless innings and surrendered just two hits to earn the victory. She walked two batters and struck out five. Senior RHP Lydia Ritchie (11-8) tossed her second complete game of the week and 11th of the campaign in the setback as she allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Ritchie upped her career strikeout total to 308, moving into eighth place on the program career top 10 list.

How They Scored
After the Pirates were set down in order in the top of the first, Kassandra Moeller tripled to center field and scored on a Sam Worrell sacrifice fly to give the home side a 1-0 lead after one complete inning.

The Bulls added another run in the bottom of the fifth when Astin Donovan tripled and scored on a two-out wild pitch. Worrell then posted a bloop double just behind third base to score Moeller who drew a two-out walk.

USF out-hit ECU 6-2 and rapped out three extra-base hits, including two triples.
