GREENVILLE, N.C. – Freshman Cashlin Copley scored her first career goal in a 1-0 win over Towson Sunday afternoon. The Pirates start the season 3-0 for the first time since 2009 while handing the Tigers their first loss of the year.

Veronica Thordardottir's free kick in the 11th minute found Copley who headed the ball just past Towson's Taylor Sebolao. Michelle Newhouse logged her second complete game in goal for the Pirates without facing a shot on goal. ECU outshot Towson 13-5 in the match and edged the Tigers 5-2 with corner kicks. Sebolao made four saves for Towson and allowed one goal, her first since the Tigers' season opener.

"We were a bit of a wounded animal at times today. We played Friday and they played Thursday so that extra day of rest is huge. We had some players playing with some tough knocks-- a broken nose from Friday night, a rolled ankle, so some of them really gutted it out. Sunday games too-- I told them before, now you know what a Sunday game looks like and you know, it's tough. Sometimes it's not going to be pretty soccer at all, in which it wasn't today. But we gutted it out and we didn't allow any shots on goal."
