
Cross Country Heads To Cary For adidas Challenge

GREENVILLE, N.C. – After opening its 2017 season two weeks ago in Pennsylvania, the ECU cross country program will make a much shorter trip Friday by traveling to Cary for the adidas XC Challenge. The meet will be held at the WakeMed Soccer Park Cross Country Course.

Parking and admission are free of charge.

The field features a grand total of 546 athletes (247 men, 299 women) between all four collegiate races. The Pirate men and women are scheduled to run in the "White (Division I)" race while the "Red" race includes the non-Division I and club teams.

Joining ECU in its event are Charleston Southern, Davidson, Duke (women only), Elon, Gardner-Webb, Mercer, Michigan (men only), North Carolina A&T, NC Central, NC State, Richmond, UNC Greensboro, VCU and Wake Forest (women only).

The men's 6K is set to begin at 6:10 p.m. with the women's 5K following at 6:35.

At the Temple Invitational, both the men and women finished in second place behind the host Owls. Junior Grace Sullivan won the women's individual title in a 6K time of 22:05 while senior Sarah Hamon captured seventh place – crossing the finish line in 22:36.

On the men's side, newcomer and senior Bakri Abushouk placed fourth overall with an 8K time of 26:17 while junior Nick Ciaccia was close behind in sixth place as he finished in a time of 26:38.
