GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU women's soccer team (5-2-2) returns to Johnson Stadium for the American Athletic Conference opener against USF Thursday night. Kickoff versus the Bulls is slated for 7.Â
Â
The Pirates, whom are undefeated at home in 2017, look to capitalize on Sunday's paramount 1-1 draw with No. 5 Virginia. Courtney Cash leads the team with five goals and two assists for 12 points this season while Annah Lindberg and freshman Cashlin Copley both have multiple goals this season. Earlier this week, goalkeeper Michelle Newhouse was named AAC Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season, while Cash and freshman defender Kim Sanford picked up Offensive and Deffensive Player of the Week accolades, respectively. It marked the first time in program history three Pirates garnered AAC weekly honors in the same week.
Â
The Pirates' defense, anchord by Sanford, has helped Newhouse post four shutouts this season. As a unit they are holding opponents to a .459 shot on goal percentage. Newhouse has allowed six goals in 760 minutes for a 0.71 goals against average.Â
Â
USF is 4-2 this season after missing a pair of non-conference games against Mississippi State and Florida due to Hurricane Irma. Head Coach Denise Schilte-Brown is one win shy of her 200th career win while the Bulls picked up their 200th program win earlier this season against Alabama in a 2-1 overtime victory. Evelyne Viens leads the squad with five goals and one assist for 11 points. Andrea Hauksdottir has three goals and two asssits while five other Bulls have scored this season.Â
Â
Kat Elliott has appeared in all six matches for the Bulls allowing 12 goals in 488 minutes. She posts a 2.21 goals against average and has made 26 saves. The Bulls defense is holding opponents to 13.3 shots per game while the offensive unite is firing off 18.5 shots per game.
Â
Last time the two met was Oct. 20, 2016, in Tampa, Fla. The Bulls defeated ECU 2-1 in overtime which was the second of three-consecutive overtime matches for ECU during conference play. USF leads the all-time series 4-2-1 but the Pirates are 2-1 at Johnson Stadium against the Bulls. Â
