After snapping a three-game losing streak Wednesday night against USF, ECU returns to the hardwood Saturday afternoon against No. 12 Cincinnati at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, Ky.
The Bearcats are tied atop the American Athletic Conference standings at 5-0 rank second in the nation in scoring defense (57.2 ppg) and field goal percent defense (.365).
They also rank third nationally in scoring margin (+20.1 ppg) and eighth in rebounding margin (+8.8). Cincinnati hasn't allowed more than 56 points in any of its first five conference games.
Jacob Evans leads a foursome of Bearcats in double figures with 13.7 points per game followed y North Carolina native Gary Clark (12.8 ppg), NC State transfer Kyle Washington (10.7 ppg) and Jarron Cumberland (10.6).
Clark leads The American (8.8 rpg) in rebounding and is the conference's all-time leading rebounder with 978.
The Pirates will look to snap a three-game losing streak to the Bearcats and earn their first road win over Cincinnati.
ECU rookie Shawn Williams led the Pirates with a career-high 22 points Wednesday against USF, but it was junior Kentrell Barkley who stole the show with 18 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals, which tied an ECU and American conference record.
He helped engineer the Pirates' best offensive performance of the season as they shot a season-high 61 percent from the floor and buried 11-of-19 3-point attempts en route to a 38-point win, 90-52, its largest margin of victory in a conference game since 1970.
Barkley ranks second on the team scoring (12.2 ppg) and ranks among the top 10 in the conference in rebounds (6.6) and steals (1.6) per game.
Senior B.J. Tyson leads the Pirates offense with 15.3 points per game and is three points shy of becoming the seventh player in school history with 1,400 for his career.
