
Pirates Fall to No. 1 UConn

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU women's basketball team (8-7, 0-2) suffered a 96-35 defeat to No. 1 Connecticut (12-0, 2-0) in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

Junior Alex Frazier was tied as the team's leading scorer with eight points. Frazier also led the team in minutes (29), rebounds (6) and assists (4). Destiny Campbell also notched eight points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field.

With the victory, UConn has now won 84 consecutive American Athletic Conference contests. The Huskies placed five players in double-figures, with junior Katie Lou Samuelson scoring a game-high 19 points.

ECU would take their only lead of the game 35 seconds into the first quarter when freshman Ariyana Williams converted on a three-point basket on ECU's first possession to take a 3-2 lead.

The Pirates held the Huskies without a made field goal for 6:23 of the second quarter while UConn shot 0-of-11 from the field in that time span. UConn would then close the first-half on a 10-0 run to extend the lead to 26 at the half.

UConn now leads the all-time series 9-0 following Wednesday's afternoon meeting and hold the same record under eighth-year head coach Heather Macy.Â
