HARTFORD, Conn. --- ECU continues its two-game road swing along with eastern seaboard Saturday against American Athletic Conference foe UCONN at the XL Center in Hartford.
Â
The Pirates will be looking to complete its first American conference road sweep and win consecutive games against the Huskies for the first time. ECU took down UCONN, 66-62, in its final home game of the 2016-17 campaign after losing 75-68 to Huskies at the XL Center earlier in the year.
Â
Junior Kentrell Barkley led the Pirates to a 67-65 win over USF in Tampa on Wednesday, scoring 16 points which included the game-winning free throws with 23 seconds remaining after senior B.J. Tyson put ECU ahead to stay with a 3-pointer with 2:04 left in regulation.
Â
Tyson added 14 points in the victory while Jabari Craig scored 13 and Isaac Fleming had 12, all in the second half.
Â
Tyson ranks 11th in The American in scoring and leads ECU with 15.4 points per game. Fleming (13.2) and Barkley (12.3) also average double digit points per game.
Â
Fleming leads the conference with 4.7 assists per game and needs one to post a new career season-best. Barkley (6.4) is second on the team in rebounding behind senior Jabari Craig (7.1)
Â
UCONN returns home after suffering a double overtime loss at Tulsa Wednesday, 90-88. Guard Jalen Adams finished one assist shy of triple-double with 29 points, 13 rebounds and nine dimes. Adams is the Huskies leading scorer with 19.0 ppg, while redshirt junior Terry Larrier (15.7 ppg) and sophomore Christian Vital (13.5 ppg) also average double figures. Larrier is UCONN's leading rebounder with 5.3 rpg and Adams is its top ball distributor with 4.2 assists per game.
Â
The Huskies lead the all-time series, which dates back to 1966, 7-2. The two east coast foes met four times from 1966-78 with UCONN winning three of four, but didn't meet again until ECU joined The American in 2014.
