ECU Prepares For ITA Carolina Regional
October 11, 2018 | Men's Tennis
GREENVILLE, N.C. – After a strong showing last weekend, the ECU men's tennis travels to Cary for the ITA Carolina Regional Championships, hosted by Duke.
Â
"The ITA Regional is the biggest and toughest tournament we will play in this fall," said head coach Shawn Heinchon. "It's a bit unique for a fall even in the fact that it's the best players that are in our region. Everybody is in one draw, which presents some great opportunities for all of our guys."
Â
The Pirates will send seven players to the singles draw, all of whom have at least three wins this fall. Last weekend, ECU went 14-6 in singles at the Spider Tennis Invitational, including Wisse Jonker winning his flight title. Jonker and Will Bissett both lead the team with 4-2 records, with Bissett winning his flight title at the USC Fall Tournament. Â Vlad Anghel and Diogo Marques both have 4-3 records while Simon Labbe and Javier Renones have each won three matches this season as well.
Â
In doubles, ECU will send a pair of duos. Labbe and Renones played together for the first time at the Spider Tennis Invite and went undefeated in three matches, winning their doubles flight title. Also competing this weekend will be Ronny Georgi and Jonker. The pair have yet to play together this fall, with Georgi having teamed with Labbe while Jonker had previously formed a duo with Renones.
Â
The tournament will consist of teams from all over the ITA Carolina region. Competition begins on Friday and continues through Sunday. All matches will be played at Cary Tennis Park and results can be found here. Â Â
