Gameday: ECU Embarks On Road Trip To Atlanta
November 15, 2018 | Men's Basketball
GREENVILLE, N.C. --- After opening the season with three home games, ECU heads to Atlanta Friday night to take on Georgia Tech at 7:30 p.m. inside McCamish Pavilion. The game will be streamed live on ESPN3/ACC Network Extra.
This will be the first meeting between the Pirates and Yellow Jackets in nearly a quarter of a century. The southeastern regional foes last meet in 1994 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum with Georgia Tech claiming the victory to extend their series lead to 3-1.
ECU Head Coach Joe Dooley was sitting on the Pirates' bench as an assistant coach when the two last met, while Tech coach Josh Pastner was an undergraduate at Arizona. Dooley went on to face the Yellow Jackets three more times as an assistant coach at Kansas, compiling a 2-1 record.
Pastner, who previously held the reigns at Memphis before landing at Georgia Tech, is 9-3 against the Pirates.
ECU is coming off an 84-78 overtime win against Lamar Sunday, while the Yellow Jackets suffered a 13-point setback at No. 5 Tennessee Tuesday.
Five players scored double figures to lead the Pirates past Lamar, led by freshman Jayden Gardner's 30 points and 10 rebounds. Seth LeDay added 16 points off the bench, Tyler Foster scored 12 with K.J. Davis and Tae Hardy netting 10 points apiece.
Gardner was recognized for his performance with The American Freshman-of-the-Week award.
The Pirates held each of their first three opponents to under 27 percent shooting from outside the 3-point arc and have forced 60 total turnovers.
ECU is averaging 12.0 steals per game, ranking ninth in Division I through games of Nov. 14.
The Yellow Jackets are shooting just 30.6 percent and averaging 14.5 turnovers per game.
Brandon Alston leads Georgia Tech with 16.5 points per game followed by Jose Alvarado. Alston was the only player to score double digits for the Yellow Jackets against Tennessee.
