
ECU Heads To Dallas For The American Swimming & Diving Championships

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The ECU men's and women's swimming & diving teams will conclude their 2017-18 seasons at the four-day American Athletic Conference Championships, which begins on Wednesday at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center in Dallas.

The Pirates will look to win their fourth consecutive men's title and first under coach new head coach Matthew Jabs, who was an assistant coach on each of the last three ECU American championship teams. The women's team is seeking its first championship since capturing the 2003 Conference USA banner.

The men's team finished .500 or better during the dual meet season for the 35th consecutive season with a record of 6-5 with the women registered their 26th straight winning campaign with a dual meet record of 8-4.

ECU is paced on the men's side by senior John Myhre and sophomore Gustavo Santos. Myhre claimed five gold medals at last year's meet, sweeping the individual sprint freestyle events with victories in the 50, 100 and 200-yard races. He was also part of the men's first-place 400 and 800 freestyle relay teams.Â

Santos is the reigning conference champion in the 100-yard butterfly and recorded the top time in the event during the dual meet campaign.

Myhre and junior Victor Santos rank one and two in The American in the 50-yard freestyle this season. Santos owns the conference's top time in the 100-yard freestyle this season and Myhre is third.

Freshman Jacek Arentewicz posted the league's second-fastest times in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke during the regular season.

Seniors Julie Lajoie and Vendela Norrman lead the women's squad. Norrman is the two-time reigning American conference champion in the 200-yard breaststroke and owner of the top mark in the league this season.

Lajoie posted top-5 times in the conference this year in the 400-yard IM, 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard backstroke.
