ECU Sweeps 200 Freestyle Relay Events At The American Championships

DALLAS – The ECU men's and women's 200-yard freestyle team each claimed first-place finishes at the American Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships Thursday inside the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center.

The men's team is in second-place with 259 points, trailing first-place Cincinnati (296) by 37 points. The women are third-place with 237 points, trailing Cincinnati (299) and Houston (257).

NEWS & NOTES
- The Pirates' victory in the women's 200-yard freestyle was the program's first in the event since the 2000 Colonial Athletic Association championships. Catherine Johnson, Bridie Burke, Logan Graumann and Tori Angermeier combined to set a pool record with time of 1:31.24.
- The ECU men won their first men's 200-yard freestyle title since 2015. John Myhre, Magnus Andersen, Gustavo Santos and Gavin Erdmann combined to touch in a time of 1:20.49.
- Senior Julie Lajoie finished third in the women's 200-yard IM with a time of 2:00.29, setting the ECU varsity record. It was her third career bronze medal at The American Championships.
- Burke and Johnson tied for fourth-place in the women's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.06, missing the medal stand by 0:00.04.
- Sophomore Gustavo Santos claimed the silver medal in the men's 50-yard freestyle (20.33). Â Myhre placed fifth after winning the event last season.
- Senior Alicia Roueche (242.75) and junior Sarah Blank (228.20) placed fourth and sixth on the 1-meter springboard, respectively.
