DALLAS – The ECU men's swimming and diving team claimed two gold medals and maintained its hold on second-place at The American Championships Friday, while the women's team slipped to fourth-place.
ECU (539) trails first-place Cincinnati (598) by 59 points for the overall men's team lead. SMU (456) is in third-place followed by UConn (419) in fourth.
Houston holds first place in the six-team women's competition after day three of events with 572 points, followed by Cincinnati (421), SMU (357), ECU (355), UConn (278) and Tulane (273).

NEWS & NOTES
- Gustavo Santos repeated as conference champion in the men's 100-yard butterfly with an American Athletic Championship and ECU varsity record time of 46.82.
- Tori Angermeier missed a spot on the medal stand by 00:00.25 and finished fourth in the women's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.10.
- Blaz Demsar placed fourth in the men's 200-yard freestyle with time of 1:37.49, missing the medal stand by 00:00.36.
- Freshman Jacek Arentewicz captured the gold medal in the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a pool and ECU freshman record time of 53.78. It's the third time in the last four years that the Pirates have won the event (Rokas Cepulis, 2015; Will Hicks, 2016).
- Junior Tristan Taylor touched fourth in the men's 100-yard backstroke, missing a spot on the medal stand by 00:00.10.
- Â In the men's 400-yard medley relay, UConn touched the wall first, but upon official video review of the third leg's take-off was disqualified. As a result, ECU's team of Tristan Taylor, Jacek Arentewicz, Gustavo Santos and Victor Martins Dos Santos edged out SMU for the gold with a winning time of 3:14.19.
The American Championships conclude Saturday evening at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center.
