
ECU To Make Puerto Rico Classic Debut

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The ECU men's golf team will make its Puerto Rico Classic debut this weekend at the 26th annual event. Hosted by Purdue University at the Rio Mar Beach and Spa Resort's River Course, the three-day event begins Sunday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
The tournament field is comprised of 15 teams, including 14 ranked in the Golfstat top 100. The field features eight teams in the top 50 and five in the top 25, highlighted by No. 1 ranked Alabama, No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 9 Oklahoma. Also joining the Pirates, who are ranked 79th, are No. 17 Clemson, No. 18 Kentucky, No. 33 Marquette, No. 37 NC State, No. 44 Northwestern, No. 52 Purdue, No. 73 Middle Tennessee, No. 76 Virginia Tech, No. 77 Maryland, No. 93 and UNCG.
The Pirates are led sophomore Patrick Stephenson with a team-best 72.13 strokes per round average. Stephenson is coming off a 16th-place performance at the Sea Best Invitational with a 1-over-par.
Senior Tim Conover posted the team's lone top-5 finish of the season with a fourth-place finish at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. Conover is second on the team in scoring average at 73.13 strokes per round.
Also representing the Pirates this weekend are sophomore Blake Taylor, senior Jackson Spires and freshman Tim Bunten, who is making his ECU debut.
