PHILADELPHIA --- Coming off arguably its biggest win of the season, ECU heads to the City of Brotherly Love Wednesday night for its lone scheduled meeting of the season against American Athletic Conference rival Temple.
The Pirates snapped a three-game losing streak by outlasting Memphis in overtime Saturday, 88-85, behind a career-high 30 points from freshman Shawn Williams, who was tabbed the conference's Rookie-of-the-Week for the third time Monday.
Williams has scored double figures in six straight games, averaging 18.8 points per game during that stretch, shooting 43.3 percent outside the arc (23-of-53).
"We're seeing a kid grow up in front of us," ECU Interim Head Coach Michael Perry said. "He's growing up as a player and we're seeing a kid who is pretty special right now. He can shoot the basketball and is very confident shooting the basketball. He can put it on the floor and makes plays.
"He doesn't realize how good he is."
Williams was 8 of 13 from the field, including 6 of 10 beyond the 3-point arc against the Tigers, while Isaac Fleming posted the first triple-double in school history with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.
"When a guy can be celebrated for getting a triple-double that speaks of team play," Perry said. "That's a big, big deal and something that you want to applaud."
The Pirates have won two in a row over Temple and three of the past four, including an 80-69 win in the first round of the 2017 American Basketball Championship tournament in Hartford.
Kentrell Barkley scored 26 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the Pirates into the quarterfinals.
However, ECU has lost all three meetings with the Owls, who have won three in a row and five of their last six overall, at the Liacouras Center.
Sophomore Quniton Rose leads a trio of Temple starters in double figures with 14.3 points per game followed by Shizz Alston, Jr. (13.1 ppg) and Obi Enechionyia (11.3 ppg).
