HONOLULU, Hawai'i. – The ECU softball team began the Texaco Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament Friday with a pair of setbacks to Longwood, 4-1, and host Hawai'i 5-3 at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

How It Happened (Game One): Longwood struck first in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs on five hits to take control of the contest. The Pirates pulled a run back in the top of the fourth when senior infielder Meredith Burroughs hit a solo home run over the wall in center field. The teams could not manage much offensively in the final three innings as the Lancers took the three-run victory.

How it Happened (Game Two): Burroughs gave ECU a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning with a solo home run to left field. The advantage was short lived however, as Hawai'i pounded out three runs on four hits in the home half to pull ahead 3-1. The Pirates drew within one run in the top of the third after redshirt sophomore Tate McClellan drove in freshman infielder Ashleigh Inae from second with a single to left center. Then in the top of the fourth, freshman catcher Anna Epling got a hold of one and drove it to left field for her first career home run that tied the score at three.
A back and forth contest saw another two runs scored in the bottom of the fourth as Hawai'i plated a pair on three hits and a ECU error to snatch the lead back at 5-3. That would be it for the scoring as the Pirates went down in order in the top of the seventh.
