HONOLULU, Hawai'i – On its final day in Hawai'i, the ECU softball team defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 13-2 in five innings before dropping a 6-3 eight-inning international tiebreaker decision to preseason Mountain West Conference favorite and 2017 NCAA Regional finalist BYU at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

How It Happened (Game One): The Golden Lions threatened in the bottom of the third, loading the bases on three singles, but freshman RHP Erin Poepping struck out the next three batters to keep the contest scoreless. The Pirates capitalized in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs on three hits and three UAPB errors to seize control. The Golden Lions fought back in the bottom of the frame, using small ball to eventually plate a pair of runs and cut the ECU lead to 4-2. Unfazed, the Pirates locked in at the plate and exploded for nine runs on seven hits, including a grand slam by senior infielder Meredith Burroughs, to break the game wide open and take a 13-2 advantage.
