DALLAS – The No. 7 seed ECU advanced to the quarterfinals of The American Men's Tennis Championships with a 4-0 opening round victory over No. 10 seed UConn Thursday. The Pirates won three singles matches in straight sets after sweeping the doubles point to advance in the tournament for the third consecutive season.

- The Pirates defeated UConn in the first round of The American Men's Tennis Championships for the third straight season. They defeated the Huskies 4-1 in 2016 and 2017 as the No. 8 seed.
- Each of the Pirates' last two victories have been against UConn. ECU closed out the regular season with a 5-2 win over the Huskies at home Sunday and have won four straight dual matches.
- ECU is 7-0 against the UConn since joining the American Athletic Conference in 2015.
- Junior Vlad Anghel earned his 19th singles win of the season and freshman Wisse Jonker improved to 18-2 in singles play since joining the team prior to the start of the 2018 spring semester.
- Anghel and junior Freddie McGeehan each improved to 2-0 in the first round of The American Men's Tennis Championship. Anghel won his singles match in the opening round against UConn last season as did McGeehan the year prior.
