ECU Tied For Fifth At The American Championships

PALM HARBOR, Fla. – ECU carded an opening round score of 8-over-par 292 Sunday at the 2018 American Men's Golf Championships and sits eight strokes behind first-place USF .
The Pirates are tied with Wichita State for fifth-place with UCF (+5) in second followed by SMU (+6) and Cincinnati (+7). Temple (+12) stands alone in seventh with Houston (+14) in eighth and Memphis and Connecticut (+16) tied for ninth.
The three-day, 54-hole event is being held at the Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club.
Senior Tim Conover fired an opening round 1-over-par 72 and is tied for 11th-place. Sophomore Patrick Stephenson and senior Jackson Spires are part of a six-way tie 16th at 2-over-par 73 with sophomore Blake Taylor and freshman Tim Bunten among eight players at 3-over-par 74 in 22nd-place.
Cincinnati's Davis Baxter leads the field at 1-under-par 70 followed by nine players at par-72.

The second round will begin at 7:30 a.m. (ET) on Monday, April 23, with ECU playing alongside Wichita State.
