
Campbell Defeats ECU 8-3 In Non-Conference Softball Contest

BUIES CREEK, N.C.  – Campbell scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and ended up with 13 hits, downing ECU 8-3 in a non-conference softball matchup Tuesday evening at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

How it Happened: ECU struck quickly in the top of the first. Freshman Tyler King singled on the infield before stealing second and moving to third on a Campbell error. Classmate Ashleigh Inae plated her on a RBI groundout to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. With two outs, redshirt sophomore Tate McClellan singled up the middle and scored on a RBI double by redshirt senior Alex Mycek as ECU took a 2-0 lead into the home half of the inning.

The Camels answered in the bottom of the frame, scoring five runs on six hits and a pair of Pirate errors to grab a 5-2 advantage. ECU pulled a run back on a Inae RBI single in the top of the fourth, but Campbell responded with a three-run home run off the bat of Elizabeth McMurray to claim an 8-3 lead. The teams went scoreless in the final three innings.
