GREENVILLE, N.C. – Top seed ECU (43-16) will open the 2018 Greenville Regional Friday, June 1 when it plays host to No. 4 seed UNCW (37-21) at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. First pitch for the Pirates is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ET).
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE REGIONAL
• For the sixth time in program history, ECU garnered the top seed in a regional (1999 – Baton Rouge, La., 2000 – Lafayette, La., 2001 – Wilson, N.C., 2004 – Kinston, N.C., 2009 – Greenville, N.C.) when the NCAA announced it would be hosting the 2018 Greenville Regional.
• The Pirates have qualified for regional competition in 15 of the last 20 seasons, third time under head coach Cliff Godwin and the 29th time overall.
• ECU earned the American Athletic Conference's automatic bid to NCAA postseason play after claiming the 2018 AAC Baseball Championships with a 4-3 win over Connecticut (its second in the last four years).
• Since 2010, ECU has played the other three teams in the regional (all in Clark-LeClair) … The Pirates own a 77-59 all-time record against UNCW (37-21) and have won five-straight in the series, most recently sweeping a home and home series this year (April 3 and May 9) … ECU and No. 2 seed South Carolina (33-24) last met in 2010 during the second weekend of the season, however the two teams also squared off against one another in the 2009 Greenville Regional … ECU and No. 3 seed Ohio State (36-22) have played five times with the last coming in 2014 during the annual LeClair Classic.
• ECU posted a 4-1 record last week on its way to the league conference tournament titled … The Pirates come into this week's action ranked in all six national polls: NCBWA (No. 10), Baseball America (No. 12), D1Baseball (No. 12), USA Today/Coaches (No. 12), Perfect Game (No. 14) and Collegiate Baseball (No. 18) … It marks the 11th-straight week ECU has been ranked in all six polls and 14th consecutive week in at least one poll.

GODWIN AT A GLANCE
• Cliff Godwin, who was named the 16th head coach in school history on June 25, 2014, was a four-year letterwinner for the Pirates from 1998-2001 … He has been a part of 10 NCAA Regional and two College World Series teams at the Division I level as an assistant coach and head coach … In four years at the help of the program, Godwin has guided ECU to three NCAA Regional berths (2015-16, 2018), a Super Regional appearance (2016), two American Athletic Conference Tournament titles (2015, 2018) and a 153-89-1 (.632) overall record … Three players have earned All-America honors, five were named to the Charlottesville All-Regional Team, 11 took home all-conference honors (nine first-teamers), nine were selected as American Player-of-the-Week, while three have been drafted by Major League Baseball teams … Named 2015 AAC Coach-of-the-Year and was inducted into the George Whitfield Hall of Fame in January of 2016 … Recently he was named to the 2018 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team staff where he will serve as the third base and hitting coach … As a player, he helped former ECU skipper Keith LeClair's teams post a 169-76 four-year ledger, including 46-plus wins in each of his final three seasons (16-16 in '99, 46-18 in '00 and 47-13 in '01) … ECU won a pair of CAA Tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Regionals every season from 1999 to 2001 … The Pirates were the top seed in their regional all three years, including a No. 7 national seed in 2001 where they advanced to the Super Regional round before being eliminated by Tennessee.
