AUSTIN, Texas – Freshman Dorthea Forbrigd fired an opening round score of 73 (1-over par) leading No. 48 ECU to a share of 12th after 18 holes at the 2018 Austin Regional. The three-day event is being held at the par-72, 6,341-yard University of Texas Golf Club.
Â
"We just didn't convert our birdie putts today," ECU Head Coach Kevin Williams said. "We only made six birdies as a team, which was not good for the amount of opportunities we had. If we do a better job of converting those over the next couple of days, we will have a chance to advance to Stillwater."
Â
Forbrigd, who is making her first NCAA Regional appearance, started on the back nine carding an even par 36 (all pars) and posted 37 (1-over) on the front nine double bogeying the third hole and registering birdie on the fifth. Her opening round 73 is tied for the 21st-lowest 18-hole NCAA score in ECU program history.
Â
The Pirates, who are tied with No. 21 Oklahoma, tallied a round one score of 299 (11-over) and are eight shots out of sixth place. The top six teams will advance to the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla. ECU's opening round score is tied for the 11th-lowest all-time in the Pirates annual with regards to participating in NCAA Regional action.
Â
Freshman Kathryn Carson posted a 2-over 74 (35-39) and is tied for 47th place. The rookie recorded two birdies, a pair of bogeys and a double bogey in her first NCAA Regional.
