GREENVILLE, N.C. – Rachel McCollum has completed a grant-in-aid agreement to attend East Carolina University and compete for the Pirate softball team according to an announcement Thursday by fourth-year head coach Courtney Oliver.
Â
McCollum spent the first two seasons of her collegiate playing career at Campbell University where she earned a pair of Big South Conference First Team honors as well as 2018 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Third-Team All-Southeast Region accolades and 2017 Big South All-Freshman Team laurels.
Â
The Seven Springs, N.C. native ranked in the top 30 nationally in five offensive categories during the 2018 campaign - seventh in total bases (143), eighth in home runs (19), 15th in doubles (18), 18th in slugging (.808) and 29th in RBI (56). She also paced the Big South Conference in runs scored (51), was second in home runs, total bases and slugging, third in doubles, RBI and on-base percentage (.469), fourth in batting average (.384) and fifth in hits (68).
Â
Her 19 home runs were the second-most in Campbell Softball history behind the 20 hit by Courtney Quinn in 2008. McCollum's .808 slugging percentage and 51 runs scored are third all-time in CU single-season history, while she stands fourth in total bases and fifth in RBI and doubles in a year.
Â
McCollum collected 16 multi-hit games in 2018, including a career-high four hits at Jacksonville. She tied a career best with five RBI twice during the year and had two home runs and four RBI in a 16-2 win at Virginia.
Â
Among school career records, McCollum is tied with Shannon O'Bryan (2000-03) for second place with 40 home runs, two behind all-time leader Taylor McGee, who had 42 from 2009-12. She also stands sixth in career batting average (.367), eighth in RBI (117) and tied for ninth in doubles (33).
