Over 200 ECU Student-Athletes Named To 2017-18 AAC All-Academic Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – More than 200 East Carolina University student-athletes have been named to the 2017-18 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team Commissioner Mike Aresco announced Wednesday afternoon.

Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the American Athletic Conference's member institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in an American Athletic Conference-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.

The ECU women's golf, women's tennis and women's swimming and diving teams each had 100 percent of their rosters on the list while baseball had 97 percent of its players recognized. Other teams of note include softball (84 percent), women's soccer (81 percent), men's golf (80 percent), women's cross country (79 percent) and volleyball (75 percent).

The nominations are reviewed and approved by the American Athletic Conference Academic Affairs Committee. There are a conference-record 2,632 honorees for the 2017-18 academic year. Cincinnati led the league with 286 selections while ECU was fourth of the 11 all-sport members with 232 honorees.
