GREENVILLE, N.C.–– Members of the ECU swimming and diving teams claimed three of the four weekly awards presented by the American Athletic Conference on Tuesday. Lyubomir Epitropov and Catherine Johnson were selected as swimmers of the week and Devin Nugent was tabbed the Male Diver-of-the-Week. It is the first weekly award for each student-athlete.
Â
Each member of the trio earned their award following the Pirates sweep of UMBC over the weekend.
Â
Epitropov swept the men's breaststroke events, finishing first in the 100 with a Minges Natatorium record time of 55.09 and first in the 200 with a mark of 1:55.97. His 100-yard breaststroke time ranks as the second-fastest in The American this season, while his 200-yard mark is fourth-best. He also helped the 200-yard medley relay team to a first-place finish,
Johnson posted four victories during the Pirates' final dual meet of the season, starting with swimming the anchor leg on ECU's winning 200-yard medley relay team. She also won both the 50 (23.83) and 100-yard freestyle (51.50) races. She concluded the day by swimming leadoff on the Pirates' first-place 400-yard freestyle team.
