GREENVILLE, N.C. – With one of the top teams in the American coming to Greenville, the ECU women's basketball team will try to get back on track against UCF on Wednesday night inside Minges Coliseum.
Â
ECU (10-7, 1-3) returns home after dropping a 58-46 loss at Memphis. The Pirates were down to just eight healthy players as they traveled to Beale Street, but battled on the glass. ECU outrebounded Memphis 49-47, including pulling down a season-high 27 offensive rebounds. However, ECU could not get anything going from the field, shooting just 18-of-73 (.247) and scoring six points in the fourth quarter. Lashonda Monk led ECU in scoring, tallying 12 points while Desiree Corbin had a career-high 14 rebounds.
Â
ECU could have used the help of Raven Johnson at Memphis, as Johnson is averaging a team-high 13.4 points. Johnson missed her first game of the season against the Tigers, with Destiny Campbell and Tamia Hicks also missing out through injury. In conference games, Monk leads the team with 14.3 points per game and has 17 steals. Monk has 63 steals this season and leads the AAC with 3.94 steals per game and is fifth in the country. Johnson leads the team overall in rebounding, hauling in 6.5 rebounds, but Corbin is ECU's leading rebounder in AAC games (7.5 rpg). Alex Frazier has found her rhythm after missing the first four games of the season, scoring in double figures in four of the past five games and recording 19 rebounds in the past two games.
Â
UCF (16-2, 5-0) is the hottest team in the conference currently, as the Knights have won six straight games. Kay Kay Wright has been the offensive fulcrum for UCF as the junior is leading the conference in scoring (19.3 ppg) and is seventh in assists (3.7 apg). Kayla Thigpen has been UCF's top option off the bench, as Thigpen has raised her scoring average from 8.9 points this season to 11.0 points in conference games. The Knights are one of the top shooting teams by percentage, shooting 35.3% from behind the arc and 41.3% from the field, marks that are second and fourth, respectively, in the conference. UCF also has the top scoring defense in the AAC, allowing just 52.4 points per game.
Â
ECU leads the all-time series against UCF 12-8, but the Knights have won three straight meetings. Last season, UCF won 75-54 in Orlando. UCF scored 44 points and shot nearly 70% in the first half to pull away early. The last ECU win over UCF came on Jan. 7, 2016 when Jada Payne's 27 points led the Pirates to a 71-56 road win. ECU is 9-1 all-time at home against UCF and had the first nine games inside Minges Coliseum before the Knights won 79-51 on Feb. 18, 2017. Since joining the AAC, ECU is 2-3 against UCF.
Â

The game will be the first time this season that ECU will be have its game broadcast on the American Digital Network, with Lincoln Rose, Angela Beck and Erin Summers will be on the call.
